Henri Grégoire

Henri Grégoire (1750-1831), a French Roman Catholic priest, took part in the 1789 Revolution. An abolitionist, he campaigned not only for the end of the slave trade and slavery but also for racial equality. He was a leading member of the Société des Amis des Noirs.
