John Woolman

John Woolman (1720-1772), a Quaker from New Jersey, was an itinerant preacher who campaigned vigorously against slavery. He also devoted much time to trying to convince other Quakers to give up slaveholding. In 1754, he published Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes.
