The Barracoon at Key West

The Africans from the bark Wildfire landed in Key West on April 30. They were held in a barracoon in deplorable conditions for more than a year, along with another 1,000 Africans liberated from two other slave ships. More than 220 people died in Key West and the survivors were sent to Liberia between June and September 1860.
