Very few Hausa, Fon, and Yoruba women were present in the United States. Abache (known as Clara Turner), a Yoruba, was thus part of a small minority. She arrived in Mobile, Alabama, on the Clotilda, the last slave ship to the U.S.A., in July 1860.
